4 OPTIONS · COMPARE THE WORKFLOW
A quick look before you choose
Choose by the job you need to finish. Canva: a short guide or checklist needing page-by-page visual layout. Adobe Express: a text-led guide whose copy may change during editing. Visme: a guide where online sharing and printable delivery are both being considered. Sqribble: a finished word draft that needs an ebook layout.

A good fit if…
Solo creators and small businesses preparing an ebook, useful guide or downloadable lead magnet.
Look elsewhere if…
Skip choosing from template previews alone if you have not yet defined the content, required delivery format and permissions for source material.
Choose an ebook design tool by working backwards from the download you want readers to use. A short checklist, a text-heavy guide and an online resource create different layout and delivery demands. Canva, Adobe Express, Visme and Sqribble offer relevant starting points, and each suits a different production workflow. Your most useful comparison is whether each candidate can handle your actual content, produce the required output and make later corrections manageable.
Define one useful download before comparing templates
For example, imagine a freelance email marketer creating an eight-page welcome-email planning guide for prospective clients. It contains a short introduction, three worked examples, a planning worksheet and a final page with one action to take. This is a hypothetical task, not a reported result. Its purpose is to give the comparison a concrete brief: readable examples, enough space for prompts and a file or link that readers can access as intended.
Decide first whether the guide must work as a static download or whether an online version is acceptable. Then prepare a representative sample containing your longest paragraph, a heading and a worksheet section. Comparing that same sample across shortlisted tools is more useful than comparing attractive covers: it exposes the layout work your real content will require.
Where each tool fits in the workflow
Canva’s ebook documentation describes editable multi-page templates, typography, visuals and sharing. That makes it a candidate when you want a template-led starting point and expect to adjust the visual presentation. Before committing, check the required output format and the rights attached to every selected asset. For the example guide, assess the worksheet and longest example page—not just whether the cover looks polished.
Adobe Express supports linked text-flow boxes, so text can move between connected areas as you edit a document. That is useful for a guide with several pages of copy. Use the longest section from your own draft to test the flow, then inspect headings, page breaks and the downloaded file. Check which template assets and export options belong to the plan you intend to use.
Visme’s ebook documentation describes customisable multi-page templates, PDF downloads and online links. The important distinction is between online interactivity and a static PDF: do not assume the two experiences are equivalent. It is a candidate when delivery format is a central decision. Confirm export entitlement, then inspect the version readers will actually receive rather than judging only the working layout.
Sqribble’s vendor material describes a cloud ebook layout tool with templates and content input that includes your own Word document. It is worth considering when your starting material already lives in Word. Check the vendor’s stated scope and upgrade entitlements. Importing content is not a substitute for editing or permission checks; use a representative extract to assess how much layout correction your draft needs.
Compare revision effort, not just the first layout
Setup is only part of the work. A useful lead magnet may need a corrected example, a revised service description or an updated action later. During your trial, lengthen a paragraph and replace a heading. Notice what you must adjust afterwards. This is a proposed evaluation method, not a claim about any tool’s behaviour. The manageable choice is the one whose correction process fits your time and confidence.
Keep delivery and working-file sharing separate in your decision. Sharing a design for review serves a different purpose from giving a reader the finished resource. Likewise, an online link is not automatically a replacement for a downloadable file. Write down the reader’s intended action—save, read online or print—and verify that your selected output supports it without relying on assumptions about plan access.
Run a small trial before designing the whole guide
- Build the same three-page sample in two shortlisted tools: an opening page, a dense content page and a worksheet.
- Change the longest passage after layout, then note the manual corrections needed.
- Generate the intended reader output, where available, and inspect readability on a phone and a larger screen.
- Check template access, asset permissions, export entitlement and any relevant upgrade conditions before committing.
Choose after this small exercise, not after browsing more templates. If both candidates meet the delivery requirement, favour the workflow you can maintain comfortably. If an essential entitlement remains ambiguous, resolve that question first. The published product details identify useful directions to explore; your sample determines whether a particular tool fits this particular download.
Strengths
- The supplied options offer template-based routes into ebook layout.
- Different starting points support a useful shortlist based on content input, document editing or delivery needs.
- A small representative sample can keep the comparison focused and manageable.
Limitations
- Confirm asset licences and the export format included in your chosen plan.
- Online interactivity does not automatically carry into a static PDF.
- Templates and imported content still need editing and permission checks.
